The present simple: habits, routines and facts

Use the present simple for habits and routines (I get up at seven every morning) and for things that are always true (She has two cats). With I, you, we and they, use the base verb: I play, they live. With he, she and it, add -s: he plays, she works. Add -es after -ss, -sh, -ch, -x and -o (watches, goes), and change consonant + y to -ies (cry → cries); 'have' becomes 'has'. For negatives use don't or doesn't + the base verb (He doesn't like coffee), and for questions use Do or Does + subject + base verb (Does she work on Saturdays?). A common mistake is to keep the -s after doesn't or does: 'She doesn't likes' and 'Does he works?' are wrong, because the -s is already in 'does'. Another common mistake is forgetting the -s: 'He work' instead of 'He works'.
