Present perfect: talking about the past when it connects to now
The present perfect (have/has + past participle) links a past action or state to the present moment. Use it for life experiences with no specific time mentioned, for actions that started in the past and continue now (with since/for), and for very recent news (with just). The moment you add a finished time expression like yesterday or in 2020, switch to the past simple instead — that's the single most common present perfect mistake at this level.
